| Mindtriggerz Project: where we've been, where we are going | ||||||
We placed several computers into childrens' homes during our "beta testing." WTVQ TV in Lexington aired a nice segment on our project and tracked one of our first installations. While we spend most of our Spring and Summer months in tending the Dunbar Memorial Garden, Jesse's dad spends many weekends installing Ubuntu, GCompris and Child's Play onto donated computers. We continue to work with Fayette County Public Schools and the Community Action Council of Lexington to place computers to the underserved population in our community. With assistance from LFUCG's Parks & Recreation Department, a permanent training lab has been established at the Valley Park Indoor Shelter. The Training Lab is open every Saturday from November to May from 10am to 2pm. Please feel free to stop by and visit us there! A variety of donations have been recieved from a wide-range of sources. Word-of-mouth has been remarkable and we owe an especially big "thanks" to Perspectives, Inc. of Lexington. Many individuals also contributed and we very greateful to Charles Byers for passing our name around his work place. Nick Muller of Operation Read is another - thank you so very much! We are also indebted to the Dunbar Beta Club (and student Ellidia Guan) for endless support and encouragement. Grateful (and GREAT full acknowledgement to) Parent/webqueen Linda Noffsinger for her regular posts not only about Mindtriggerz but also about the Dunbar Garden in the weekly Dunbar E-News. Thanks, Linda. Jesse's friends (from college, highschool and the working world) have been gathering each Saturday morning. As of November 2010 over 50 Mindtriggerz Computers have been distributed thanks to their many hours of hardware trouble-shooting, testing equipment, cleaning components and placing Jesse's face on the computers. Without a doubt, Jesse would be proud. His parents stand amazed. The Jesse Higginbotham Technology Trust is a Kentucky 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation - ALL donations are tax-deductible and can be scheduled for pickup. Please visit the "contact us" page for more information on donating your working computer and components.
