Visit our Scholarship Page for more information: Scholarships Click the eNews buttons to sign up for our email newsletters News and events: In January 2013, we continue our Year-Round Plan for Giving with a second initiative: providing wish list items to two area Crisis Shelters. A flyer is on the project is available here. As part of our Boards Adoption of a "Year-Round Plan for Giving" our volunteers coordinated an effort to bake desserts to be served to area food shelters during their Holiday Meals in December. We were able to donate over 400 cookies, several pies and dessert breads to the Lexington Men's and Women's Hope Center as well as to Lighthouse Ministries. Cardinal Valley Elementary School's PTA will host an event at the Jesse Higginbotham Neighborhood Center on December 1, 2012 from 9am to 6pm. Proceeds from the event "Holiday Family Portraits" will benefit a fundraising effort to place a new playground at Cardinal Valley Elementary School. Please click here for more information. On October 6, 2012 a ceremony took place at Valley Park. The Shelter was dedicated as the "Jesse Higginbotham Neighborhood Center" On May 19, 2012 we hosted our Third Annual Native Plant Sale at Dunbar with proceeds again benefitting our work at the Dunbar Memorial Garden. Please visit our 2012 Native Plant Sale page. The event was our most succesfull to date and we thank the Dunbar Beta Club along with those who helped promote, attend and volunteer at the sale. You may read our blog post to learn more. In the February 2012 edition of the "Lamplighter" an article features the new Jesse Higginbotham Media Lab. A scanned copy can found here. On October 29, 2011 Dunbar High School held a dedication for the "Jesse Higginbotham Media Lab" - a technology center designed and created by staff and students of Dunbar High School. While the Trust did not sponsor the schools work, we are appreciative of this honor and donated a portrait created by Jesse's friend Alyssa that is on display at the Media Lab. Photos and details are located here. On May 21, 2011 the Trust held its Second Annual Native Plant Sale at Dunbar with proceeds benefitting our continued work at the Memorial Garden. All plants were propogated at our garden and we are thankful for the continued support of the Dunbar Beta Club. Additionally, we donated a variety of native plants to Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital for their therapeutic garden - a space for their patients to work in and enjoy. On January 9, 2010 we were honored to host the Kentucky Premiere of the documentary "Straightlaced: How Gender's Got Us All Tied Up. " The film features an interview done with Hannah Landers, one of Jesse's friends, and a staunch advocate for acceptance and tolerance. Hannah worked with us at the Dunbar Memorial Garden until her fatal auto accident in May 2008. The premiere was a huge success and all proceeds benefited the Hannah Landers Scholarship Fund.
